As I previously reported, since the upgrade to Microsoft’s Edge browser on January 15th, Google Analytics had been classifying Edge traffic incorrectly as Chrome or Safari. A fix was rolled out to their production region today, which seems to have corrected this issue going forward.
You can tell the difference with the following:
- The Old EdgeHTML version of Edge will have version numbers of 18 and below.
- The new Chromium version of Edge will have version numbers of 79 and above.
Historical data has not been reprocessed (and I don’t expect it to). So aggregate reporting in the GA UI, as well as the hit data in BigQuery will likely be slightly inaccurate in regard to Edge browser share for the affected period (1/15/20 – 2/4/20).
